A Letter of Permission (LOP) allows you to take a course at another postsecondary institution while remaining enrolled in your program. Your home institution is where you're currently registered and working toward your degree, diploma, or credential. Your host institution is the school where you'd like to take the course.

With an approved LOP, the credit you earn at your host institution is transferred back and counted toward your program requirements at home.

Students use LOPs for many different reasons:

  • a required course is full or unavailable,
  • they want to explore a specialized topic offered elsewhere,
  • there is a scheduling conflict,
  • or they need to stay on track for graduation.

To get started, select the institution where you currently study (home institution) and the institution where you would like to take a course (host institution). We'll show you the steps you need to complete at both postsecondary institutions.
